President Obama meets Azuri distributor Mibawa’s Michael Wanyonyi

Barack Obama discusses ‘Power Africa’ initiative during his visit to Nairobi, Kenya

The President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, met Michael Wanyonyi, CEO and founder of Mibawa Suppliers, during his visit to the Power Africa Innovation Fair on Saturday 25th July.

Michael showed the President a range of the solar products which Mibawa supplies across Kenya, including Azuri’s Indigo system, which the company has being selling successfully in Western Kenya since early 2012. Mibawa were Azuri’s first distributor in sub Saharan Africa.

Obama then addressed journalists alongside Wanyonyi, discussing the ‘Power Africa’ initiative and its progress to date.

“We are well on our way,” Obama said. The ‘Power Africa’ initiative has a goal of creating 30,000 megawatts of “new, cleaner electricity generation capacity”.

Azuri was also recently a winner in the Power Africa 2015 Photo Contest.

“When people see the innovative energy projects and ideas emerging out of sub-Saharan Africa, they see that progress can and will be made for creating a brighter future,” said Andrew M. Herscowitz, President Obama’s coordinator for Power Africa.
